John Hébert prezentuje niebywałą technikę, brzmi zdecydowanie i naturalnie. Na jego bogatej podstawie harmonicznej pozostałe instrumenty prowadzą niezależne linie melodyczne i kontrapunktują (Sinks When She Rounds The Bend).

Jonathan Finlayson operuje ciepłym i jasnym tonem, słyszalnym w Sea Cut Like Snow.

To znakomity finał niezwykłej płyty.

Mary Halvorson presents another studio portion of her quintet. Music on the Bending Bridges is as a quite exceptional case, you got a feeling like it’s being composed in a real time. Mary with a sense of humor blends musical genres, form and twists harmony. What is puzzling is that all of these conceptions do not shatter organically coherent entirety. Her writing for brass like for Cannonball Adderley Quintet or Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers is on a smooth pass with alternative rock, noise, pop music or contemporary. Presented with a breakneck speed classical arpeggios, clusters, pop melodies, get along with atonal sections pointed by Mary with a distortion pedal. Although Halvorson is certainly electric guitar virtuoso, in her playing there is also noticeable innocence of the first meeting of this instrument (Deformed Weight of Hands).

She uses creatively guitar effects, as probably distinctive for her style pitch-pedal, creating and embellishing unique sonic mood. She is able to write catchy and melodic themes, and musicians to build upon them intriguing solos, as in Love in Eight Colors. Music is expressive, almost feverish, at any moment of the recording, tangled chords break out, delay, and the melodic themes pass into oblivion, and after a while suddenly return (Hemorrhaging Smiles). Composition are changing like in a kaleidoscope, after minor introduction musicians can speed up and give them an entirely different harmonic expression and mood (Sea Cut Like Snow
).

Ches Smith and John Hébert play building a base for Halvorson’s thorny and dissonant lines, immersed in polyrhythmics, adequate for her performance which is full of unexpected turns and turbulences (The Periphery of Scandal). John Hébert presents an incredible technique, sounds strongly and naturally. On his rich harmonic foundation, other instruments lead independent melodic lines and counterpoints (Sinks When She Rounds The Bend). Double bass figures are as a springboard for the drums, and fusion of these two musicians and instruments in this area is exorbitant. Ches Smith finds himself perfectly throughout the album. It seems that song like Deformed Weight of Hands, saturated with punk rock and avant jazz is a grist to his mill.

Jonathan Finlayson operates with a warm and bright tone, audible in the Sea Cut Like Snow. His interpretations remind me of another eminent American trumpeter - Ron Miles. Jon Irabagon presumably not making such a big impression as the other musicians, no less he seems to be very important for Halvorson’s concept and it is difficult to imagine a replacement for this musician in her band.

All the Clocks flows like watches on the musicians hands beat in another time and still all perfectly at the designated time, eventually landing at the same airport. A great finale of an extraordinary record.
